Oh I Do Declare!
Wednesday, October 18th, 2006
In 1776, our founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence, in which they said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal that they are endowed…with certain unalienable Rights…among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This resonated and made me think about our truths today, 230 years later. In my experience as a female makeup artist, this is what I realized. We women are not created equally (do all of us talk alike, walk alike, think alike or remotely look alike??) and many of us are still fighting for the aforementioned rights. Only, we are not battling the men whose signatures appear on this historic document, or the men who live by it today. The sad truth is we are fighting ourselves when we look in the mirror. We women have become our worst enemies.
We criticize our bodies, cringe at the thought of saying the wrong thing on a date, and scold ourselves when we cannot accomplish everything on our already oversized To-Do list. This internal war only exacerbates an already anxious state. And trust me, regardless of any of my product recommendations no cosmetic can mask an unhappy woman!
So how do we look in the mirror and see our true beauty? We must acknowledge and celebrate our own realities. It is impossible to look like the ladies in the spotlight because they do not even look like themselves. The have trainers, makeup artists, hairstylists, lighting technicians, professional photographers and often times professional retouchers in order to generate the final image we see.
The purpose of Beautydean is not to make you into a carbon copy of these ladies. It is to give you some of the professional tricks you can use to compliment your unique features.
With that said, my tip for this week is this…
Face the enemy and declare a truce. Accept what you were endowed, live your life of liberties and pursue your happiness. Only then will you be able to experience a truly beautiful life.
This is your right!
