Going Batty!

Back in June, I suggested my favorite mascaras for keeping your lashes looking defined and flake-free all day. http://beautydean.com/long-lasting-lashes-no-sweat/ Now that you know which formula works and have had time to perfect your technique, let’s add a step and achieve truly luscious lashes! All you need is a steady hand, a pair of scissors, tweezers, glue, and a few fake lashes.
Our goal is to offer an alternative to the current trend of having lash extensions applied professionally in a salon. That procedure can generate beautiful results and last up to two weeks if you take proper care. However, if you desire a smaller time and financial commitment, then applying fake lashes by with your own artistic hands is your answer.
Tools:
Scissors: I prefer cuticle scissors. The small point allows for precision cutting.
Tweezers: The duller the better, but any will do. You need them to take the fakes out of their container and to dip them into glue.
Glue: I like Duo Clear White Eyelash Adhesive. It appears white and dries clear.
Lashes: I find individuals to be easiest and you have great control over smaller pieces. Even when I use a full band lash, I cut it into pieces for easier placement. My favorites are:
Shu Uemura Long Eyelashes Regular- Cut this long strand into whatever shape you want.
Ardell Fashion Lashes 102 Demi- They look dramatic, but when you trim them into individuals, they are phenomenal for evening glamour!
Ardell DuraLash Short Black- Use these indies for a very naturally full look.
Steady Hand: Avoid massive amounts of caffeine prior to application!
Preparation:
If necessary, tailor lashes so they are ready to go. This may require cutting bands into smaller pieces or the actual length of the hair.
Application Notes:
The eye should be closed when applying lashes. After each lash, open the eye halfway to allow the glue to dry properly.
Always put longer lashes on the outer corners. As you work towards the inner corners, the lashes can get shorter (this follows the shape of your natural lash). Nothing says you need to put lashes across the whole eye. You can add just a few on the outside corners for a bit of flair.
Application:
1. Curl your real lashes.
2. Apply one coat of mascara to real lashes and let dry.
3. Apply a drop of glue to the back of your hand.
4. Dip the tip of the fake lash in the glue and let it dry in the air for 7-10 seconds. This allows the glue to be a good consistency for sticking.
5. With your fingers, place lash where you want it along the lashline. (If you are comfortable with metal near your eye, go ahead and use the tweezers. But I cannot be responsible for any injuries!) Start with the outer corners and work inward.
6. Once glue is completely dry, you can blend your natural lashes with the temporary ones by gently TAPPING on another coat of mascara.
Now go bat those eyelashes and drive everyone else crazy!
